AstraZeneca is building an internal consulting capability in our Global Business Services (GBS) group focused on delivering high-quality project management services to our enterprise organization.
As a founding member of GBS Project Services and part of the leadership team, the Services Operations Director is accountable for the engine that will run our project management delivery services. You will deliver on the operations strategy and vision, ensure seamless project intake and qualification, develop and communicate key performance indicators, drive the evolution of a standard delivery methodology, and develop a healthy project pipeline. To be successful in this role you will need to have a customer-centric mindset to establish rapport, build a strong network at pace, and be able to act as a liaison between GBS Project Services and the AZ leadership team. You will be innovative, proactive, have experience managing a large team, value the importance of high-quality delivery, and build and motivate a global team.
Responsibilities:
Define and drive the Operations Team strategic roadmap and vision
Have direct management, coaching, and mentoring accountability for the Employee Engagement Manager, Portfolio Manager, and Portfolio Analysts.
Define qualitative and quantitative operational goals, such as project pipeline and project qualification SLAs, and provide ongoing reporting on progress
Accountable for the creation and maintenance of the GBS Project Services methodology and standard approach to project management
Responsible for high-quality and efficient project demand intake and qualification.
Lead the calculation of resource allocation, cost estimation, and implementation of a chargeback model to invoice the business for service delivery
Responsible for managing the Operations Team annual budget, resourcing, and creating financial projections
You will drive, support, and prioritize broad awareness of the service, benefits, and value across the AZ enterprise through frequent and comprehensive internal communication efforts
You will build and manage relationships with key executive stakeholders, and ensure timely and complete communication on status, risks, and issues
Partner with the Delivery Director to properly resource and assign projects, and actively evolve the GBS Project Services project management methodology
Partner with Procurement leadership to accurately engage and manage third party suppliers to support the service with additional capacity or specialized skills
You will partner with the Project Services Lead to define ways of working and team operating model/management structure to drive optimized productivity and engagement
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance, Business, or Healthcare-related major
10+ years experience in programme/project management for large, complex projects within a distributed workforce
Experience in effectively leading a team of 10+ people
Experience of managing and controlling a department budget
Significant experience and skill presenting in front of C-suite/executive level clients through written and verbal channels
Experience developing and working with project management methodologies, templates, and toolsets
Demonstration of strong, communication and relationship building skills with experience in collaborating and sharing knowledge between teams
Experience considering risks, evaluating alternatives, and encouraging input from others to effectively make decisions and plan mitigation tactic
Experience in relationship management, across both relationship development, maintenance, and ability to understand internal political influence
Desirable Qualifications:
Project Management Certification
Project Management Office (PMO) management experience
Pharmaceutical or equivalent global & complex organization experience; experience of working within a quality and compliance environment and application of policies, procedures and guidelines
